On the eve of training camp officially opening, the Denver Broncos have made a minor roster move. According to reports, the team has signed defensive back Sam Webb and has waived cornerback Blake Cotton with an injury designation .
Webb had a tryout with the team earlier today and impressed the coaches enough to sign him to their 90-man roster. Cotton suffered a hamstring injury during Wednesday’s first ramp-up practice and sat out today’s practice before being waived with an injury settlement later in the day.

Sam Webb is a 28-year-old cornerback who is listed at 6-0, 194 pounds and has bounced around the league a bit. He originally went undrafted in 2022 and signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. From there, he spent time with the Carolina Panthers, back with the Raiders, and spent last season with the Titans and Browns. Now, he joins the Denver Broncos and adds some backend corner depth to their 90-man roster.
Throughout his career, Webb has appeared in 36 games, including 5 starts, and has totaled 45 tackles, 1 pass deflection, and 1 fumble return for a touchdown.
The Broncos cornerback room is loaded and pretty much set with Pat Surtain II, Riley Moss, Ja’Quan McMillian, Jahdae Barron, and Kris Abrams-Draine, but there’s an opportunity to compete for a spot on the practice squad. Webb will be competing with Jaden Robinson, Taylor Reese, Brent Austin, and Sean Fresch Jr. for those spots on the practice squad.
Realistically, Webb is likely more or less a camp body and someone to play in the second half of preseason games. With that said, he is joining the team early enough into camp where he will have a chance to impress the coaches. He has spent time in this league and is experienced, so it’s possible he could push for a spot on the practice squad, but we shall see how it plays out.
Training camp officially kicks off tomorrow for the Broncos after two days of acclimation/ramp up practices. Fans will be in attendance, we’ll have live updates, and more information about how the team looked during that day’s practice. Stay tuned to Mile High Report for updates on all things Broncos Camp.
