The Los Angeles Lakers‘ decision to cut ties with Gabe Vincent during the 2025-2026 NBA season wasn’t met with pushback by LA fans.
The veteran guard was struggling to hit that same stride that he had in Miami. In 29 games throughout the previous season, Vincent averaged 4.8 points and 1.3 assists per game. He shot just 34.6% from the field.
After sending Vincent to the Atlanta Hawks, the guard’s contract is now expired. Vincent has been a free agent since late June, and doesn’t have a new team with September approaching.
While that tells the Lakers they made the right decision by cutting ties with Vincent, his lack of suitors this deep into the offseason doesn’t mean he’ll be a free agent for long. Vincent could be getting a call from his ex soon enough.

The Miami Heat are looking to fill out one or two more slots on their roster.
Vincent is one of three possible additions, according to the NBA Insider , Marc Stein.
“Now the Heat must decide whether they want to carry 14 or 15 players during the regular season. Nick Richards continues to be regarded as a prime candidate to sign if Miami elects to add another big man while Heat alumni Gabe Vincent and Keshad Johnson have also been under consideration,” Stein explained on August 24.
While Vincent doesn’t seem to be the favorite to land with the Heat at the moment, they certainly aren’t looking past him.

Maybe Vincent just needs to be in Miami to hit his stride.
The 30-year-old entered the pros in 2018. He went undrafted out of UC Santa Barbara. The Heat picked up Vincent in 2019-2020. He spent four seasons with Miami’s main roster.
Over that time, he appeared in 195 games, picking up 68 starts. Vincent shot 39.9% from the field and 33.9% from three, averaging 7.7 points. He also came down with 1.7 rebounds per game, and dished out 2.3 assists per game.
The Heat have a different look these days, compared to the last time Vincent was around. After spending seven seasons in the league, Vincent remains of interest for Miami’s front office, and he could end up with another shot down South Beach soon.
