Some places just have a different sound: whether it’s music that changed history, a stadium singing in unison, or simply a football rolling down the street. The Toxteth district has always had its own particular sound, different from anywhere else: this was where the Beatles explored new musical genres that influenced them. It’s where the red brick houses reflect a love for Liverpool dating back to the legendary team of Bill Shankly, who were beaten by Grande Inter in 1965. Robbie Fowler grew up here, as did a generation who fell in love with Steven Gerrard and his exploits. And it was here that Curtis Julian Jones was born on 30 January 2001.

In this quintessentially English environment, Curtis took his first steps, with one constant: a desire to have a football at his feet wherever he was, whatever the situation. From a very young age, Jones looked for every opportunity to play football with his friends on the streets or in school playgrounds, until nightfall. In the wind and rain, his only dream was to make it to Anfield and play in a Liverpool shirt, to the extent that he turned down the chance to join the academies of Manchester United and Manchester City. The Reds’ youth academy welcomed him at the age of six, and from that moment Jones gave everything to reach the First Team.

Initially, Curtis was underestimated because of his slight build, but his determination never wavered. He trained constantly, while his family made sacrifices to help him achieve what had seemed like an impossible dream. Jones played as an attacking midfielder, but his abilities soon became clear: Curtis could play in any midfield position thanks to his skill on the ball. He rose rapidly through the ranks, finding himself in the U23s at just 16 years of age — merely a taste of what was to come.

A mentor was needed to take another step forward, and the turning point came in 2017/18, when Steven Gerrard became Liverpool U18 coach. A symbol and living legend for a Scouser like Jones, Gerrard was an example both on and off the pitch for the young Toxteth local. His rise continued: in the summer of 2018, he spent pre-season with Jürgen Klopp’s first team, who praised Curtis for his outstanding mobility and dribbling ability.

On 7 January 2019, he made his Liverpool debut in the third round of the FA Cup against Wolverhampton Wanderers. It would be his only appearance of the season, but it meant Curtis only wanted more and more.

The following season, he made his Premier League debut against Bournemouth in December, before scoring his first professional goal in a match far from ordinary: Jones decided the Merseyside derby against Everton in the third round of the FA Cup on 5 January 2020 with a wonderful curling right-footed strike, immediately becoming a Kop favourite.

Liverpool’s dressing room was a constant learning environment for Curtis, where he learned from Salah, Mané and Firmino and found a mentor in veteran James Milner. From 2020 onwards, he was used regularly, becoming an important player first for Klopp and then for Arne Slot. Jones made his Champions League debut, refining his game and versatility. In December 2025, he became the youngest Liverpool midfielder to reach 200 appearances for the club since Steven Gerrard, his mentor.

Across eight seasons, Jones made 228 appearances and scored 22 goals for the Reds, winning two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups, one Community Shield and the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup. With England, Curtis won the 2023 U21 EUROs and was named in the Team of the Tournament. He made his senior international debut in 2024, scoring on his first appearance against Greece in the Nations League.

Highly accomplished on the ball and possessing excellent dribbling ability, Jones has been able to operate in every midfield position throughout his career.

After a lifetime with Liverpool, the midfielder leaves his home country for the first time, joining fellow England internationals John Stones and Djed Spence and becoming the sixth Englishman in Inter’s history. The time has come for a new, incredible adventure — one he can approach with the confidence that has accompanied him throughout his life: Curtis Jones is a new Inter player.
