Nelly Korda has an important tip to help amateurs strike the ball better, ‘it’s not talked about a lot

Nelly Korda believes that good tempo in the golf swing is what connects all of the greatest players in the game’s history, with the world number one suggesting that it is not spoken about enough.

Korda begins her quest to win a third major of the season this week, with the 28-year-old hoping to win the AIG Women’s Open for the very first time in her career.

Korda’s record at the Women’s Open is not overly impressive given her talent. Her only top-eight finish at the event came at St Andrews back in 2024, when she finished second to Lydia Ko.

Royal Lytham and St Annes is going to provide a stern test. The eventual winner will probably be relying on plenty of luck, particularly when it comes to avoiding the eye-watering number of bunkers on the course.

But of course, those in the mix will be hoping that their swing holds up under the most intense pressure.

Nelly Korda suggests a swing thought amateurs can use

Korda arguably boasts the best golf swing in the game right now. And obviously, it has proven to be hugely successful, with the American boasting 19 LPGA wins.

And in an interview with talkSPORT , Korda suggested one swing thought that she often goes back to that amateurs can also benefit from.

“I would say tempo is the number one thing I always revert back to. A lot of people get really fast off the takeaway and then the transition at the top of their swing. So giving yourself enough time in your transition so it’s not jerky,” she said.

“It’s not talked about a lot but I would say tempo is one of the most important parts of the game, it doesn’t matter how gritty or ugly your swing looks. It’s just about being confident with it, and I think that is the one thing that a lot of people have in common, the greats, is that their tempo has been pretty consistent throughout their entire bag, so making sure you’re always working on your tempo and figuring out how you want to hit the shot.”

Most golf fans could watch Korda swing the club all day. When she gets into her rhythm, it becomes a surprise when she ever misses a shot. Korda makes generating immense power look effortless.

And it is fair to say that she has plenty of notable admirers.

One of those who has been hugely impressed by Korda’s swing is Lee Trevino, with the six-time major champion making a point to laud Korda on the range ahead of the PNC Championship in 2022.

“I’ve played with a lot of guys in my time. Let me tell you, I’ve never been so impressed by anyone as this lady right here. I’m telling you, these boys better be happy you’re on the LPGA,” he said .

It is extremely high praise from another all-time great. But it is hard to imagine that there are many legends of the game who would disagree with Trevino.
