On a per 90 basis, those figures point to sharp attacking efficiency, while his non-penalty expected goals return suggests a player still capable of generating high-value moments in the final third.

That is why this situation carries intrigue. The issue around Chiesa has rarely been productivity, it has been availability in the starting picture. Those totals explain why external interest has emerged, even if the player’s own stance has remained relatively clear.

Atletico Madrid interest grows around Chiesa

According to the report, Atletico Madrid have made an attempt for Chiesa and continue to monitor him closely. Diego Simeone is said to appreciate the profile, which is understandable given Chiesa’s direct running, intensity and ability to attack space from wide positions. Any firm progression from the Spanish side appears linked to the outcome of the Julian Alvarez situation, which remains central to their summer planning.

That caveat matters. Atletico’s admiration is one thing, their capacity to turn it into a concrete deal is another. Until there is clarity on other moving parts in Madrid, this feels more like a live possibility than an advanced negotiation.

Liverpool stance under Andoni Iraola

Liverpool’s side of the equation appears more flexible. Chiesa joined from Juventus in August 2024 for around €12 million, collected a Premier League winner’s medal and remains under contract until June 2028. Yet the club are understood to be prepared to consider offers.

Even so, context has shifted. With Mohamed Salah gone, Liverpool’s forward line no longer carries the same depth or certainty it did a year ago. In those circumstances, Chiesa has a plausible route into greater relevance, especially under a new head coach assessing the squad with fresh eyes. If Liverpool’s interest in Bradley Barcola develops, that picture could change quickly, but for now there is space for Chiesa to make his case in pre-season and beyond.

Serie A options remain in background

Italian clubs have also been attentive. Roma, Napoli, Como and Fiorentina are all reported to have made enquiries, although nothing advanced materially. The suggestion is that Chiesa has consistently signalled a desire to remain at Liverpool, where he is settled and still keen to prove himself in the Premier League.

If that changes, Serie A appears the more natural destination than Madrid. At present, though, the player’s preference is to stay and compete. For Liverpool, that may be useful leverage or a genuine opportunity. Much depends on incoming business, but Chiesa is not short of motivation as the window enters a decisive phase.

Our View

From a Liverpool fan perspective, this feels like one of those situations where almost every outcome can be argued. On one hand, Chiesa has never really been given an extended run, so it is hard to judge him properly. When he has played, there have been flashes that suggest there is still a dangerous forward there, someone who can change the pace of a game and offer something a bit different.

On the other hand, there is a reason two managers have struggled to fully rely on him. Availability, rhythm and tactical trust all matter. Liverpool cannot keep players purely on the basis of what they might become if the pathway to minutes is still unclear.

The Salah point is a big one as well. Replacing that output is impossible through one player, so perhaps keeping Chiesa as part of a broader spread of goals makes sense. Equally, if Iraola wants a more robust, high-energy, positionally disciplined option, then a sale now could be practical.

Supporters will probably be torn. There is understandable curiosity about what Chiesa could do with real minutes, but there is also realism about Liverpool needing certainty in attack. Right now, it feels like a pre-season verdict waiting to happen.
