Angels Expected to Keep Interim GM Beyond 2026

The Los Angeles Angels shook up their front office in June, firing general manager Perry Minasian after nearly six years of service.

In Minasian’s place, the Angels appointed former St. Louis Cardinals general manager and president of baseball operations John Mozeliak on an interim basis. Per USA Today’s Bob Nightengale , the Angels are expected to keep Mozeliak after the conclusion of the season.

Mozeliak hasn’t done much since taking on the position, with overseeing the draft earlier this month being his biggest task, but has spoken with optimism heading forward and had big plans for the organization despite his limited leash.

“The one thing you have to realize about the Los Angeles Angels is: they do have resources,” Mozeliak said. “From Mr. Moreno to the market size, this is a place that could be a very, very special place.”

Mozeliak’s biggest test is yet to come, though, as the Aug. 3 trade deadline will dictate the direction of the franchise.

What Could the Angels Do at the Trade Deadline?

The Angels, who currently have the worst record in the American League, should be sellers at the deadline, but the bigger question is who they are willing to sell off.

They have multiple controllable assets on their roster, many of whom would command a respectable package. Jo Adell and Jose Soriano are two names who have drawn interest across the league, and both are under team control at least through 2027.

Reid Detmers is also under control through that season, and has been the Angels’ best pitcher throughout the season. The Boston Red Sox showed interest in Zach Neto, but due to their recent acquisition of Curtis Mead, they may not pursue it further.

The Angels also have a few players who will become free agents after this season, such as Jorge Soler, who could command a decent return.

Mozeliak will look to do everything in his power to bring the Angels back to the top of the baseball world during his tenure as the Halos look to recover from their recent woes.
