Big changes are coming to the Liverpool attack during the current transfer window.

Mohamed Salah has left the club with an agreement reached to rip up his £400k per week contract one year early. He could also be joined by Federico Chiesa if Richard Hughes decides to cash in.

Bradley Barcola is the main name in the frame for an Anfield arrival this summer but Liverpool are going to have to pay an exorbitant amount to land the 23-year-old.

Paris Saint-Germain want £145m for the France international - who has informed his club he won’t be extending a contract beyond its current 2028 expiry date.

But on the other side of the attack we could see changes afoot. Cody Gakpo is reportedly wanted by Fenerbahce among others and would consider moving to a club in a top-five league.

That would open the door for Liverpool to make a left-wing signing with Nico Williams of Athletic Club now reported to be on the radar.

The 24-year-old renewed his contract with Athletic last summer - extending until 2035 on a mammoth salary.

Nico Williams' £77m release clause

There is however a £77m release clause in the deal - around HALF of what’s needed to acquire Barcola.

Right now however the Merseysiders are behind Premier League holders Arsenal in the chase for Williams - who won the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Spain.

Arsenal are also plotting big improvements in attack - with Leandro Trossard joining Besiktas and links also live for Vinicius Junior.

Arsenal interest more advanced

“Arsenal have renewed their interest in signing him, while Liverpool also remain keen, although the London club's pursuit is more advanced,” the report reads.

“Liverpool are also among the clubs interested in Nico Williams, although their position is different.

“The Anfield club continues to monitor the player's situation, but at the moment, they haven't reached the level of progress seen in the talks initiated by Arsenal.”

It would be prudent for Richard Hughes and Iraola to keep Williams in mind - just in case an opportunity becomes available.

He is a world-class talent on his day and had a game-changing impact on the World Cup final.

Williams is working his way back to full fitness after an injury-hit season and would add some spark to the left side of the Reds attack under fellow Bilbao academy graduate Andoni Iraola.
