Si Woo Kim is in the midst of a strong season on the PGA Tour, but he is more known on the tour for his unique personality.

Many golfers have fun stories regarding Kim, and fellow golfer Michael Kim added another one on Tuesday night. The pair is in Detroit for the Rocket Mortgage Classic, but a pre-tournament trip for dinner led to an adventure for Si Woo in Michigan.

As a result, Si Woo Kim briefly ended up in Canada before finally making it to dinner. Afterwards, Michael Kim was able to tell a story that entertained many golf fans.

Here's how Si Woo Kim's innocent drive to dinner involved the Canadian-American border.

How Si Woo Kim ended up in Canada in Korean BBQ mix-up

On social media, golfer Michael Kim told a story about how Si Woo Kim accidentally ended up in Canada. The two were set to have dinner at a Korean barbecue restaurant in Detroit, but Si Woo's Google Maps gave him directions to a restaurant of the same name in Canada.

As Si Woo was driving to the wrong place, he eventually realized that he was about to cross the border, but it was too late to turn around.

"He doesn’t have a passport, just his wallet," Michael Kim said. "He tries to turn back, but it's already too late, it’s a one way and there are multiple signs telling him he can’t turn back."

Si Woo then had to deal with border control agents, who told him to enter Canada and just come back on the other side. However, that is when chaos ensued.

"He drives across, waits in line for 45min. He finally gets to an officer and he tries to explain. He’s super nervous but tries to explain what happened," Michael Kim said. He points to his courtesy car and says I’m here for the golf tournament. This officer is not sure what to do so they drive the car to the side and calls another officer… then another… then another until 8!!! officers are surrounding his car and talking to him and each other. They check his cars for weapons, asks him if he has any drugs or weapons, stuff like that and they finally let him thru."

— Michael S. Kim (@Mike_kim714) July 29, 2026 Eventually, Si Woo Kim made it to dinner 90 minutes later than expected. On Wednesday, Si Woo told the story in from his point of view, and explained that the Canadian restaurant was just 1.5 miles away from his hotel in Detroit.

"I just follow the instruction and somehow make a turn, there's a toll gate, $9 I had to pay [to] go through. Why's it so expensive?" he said. "As soon as I get into the tunnel, 'oh, this is Canada.'"
