The worst-kept secret in professional golf is apparently out there now: There will be no LIV Golf event in Michigan this year.
LIV has told players that the team championship event, scheduled to take place in Plymouth in three weeks, has been canceled, according to a report in The Telegraph on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
This would be the second LIV tournament to be cancelled in 2026, after an event in New Orleans was called off in June.
A cancellation of the event should come as no surprise. On Aug. 5, LIV announced a new lead investor but did not commit to the 2026 season finishing with the team championship at The Cardinal at Saint John's in Plymouth, scheduled for Aug. 27-30. And as Free Press columnist Carlos Monarrez pointed out, there was no visible signage or indication a tournament was coming to the course in the near future.
Despite the report, tickets for the event still were being offered for sale on the LIV Golf website as of late Wednesday morning.
Fox TV, however, has removed the tournament from its listings, according to the report.
With the Rocket Classic playing its final tournament at Detroit Golf Club at the beginning of the month and now a reported official cancellation for LIV, the state of pro golf in Michigan continues to look dour.
