The Cleveland Guardians are already thin in the bullpen, which has fueled the team's roster moves ahead of Saturday night's matchup against the San Diego Padres.
Unfortunately, it now looks like the bullpen will be down yet another arm, as Colin Holderman exited his start early with what manager Stephen Vogt called wrist inflammation after the game. .
Holderman entered the game at the top of the seventh inning in relief of Cleveland's starting pitcher Joey Cantillo.
The Guardians reliever got the leadoff hitter, Manny Machado, to ground out, but then hit Ty France with a pitch. The next batter, Jackson Merrill, grounded into a force out, which brought Campusano to the plate, which is where things got interesting.
After the first pitch of the at-bat, which was a ball, Holderman started walking around the mound, which is what triggered Cleveland's head trainer, along with manager Stephen Vogt and pitching coach Carl Willis, to head onto the field.
After a lengthy discussion, Holderman ultimately exited the game and walked back to the dugout, clearly with discomfort on his face.
Hunter Gaddis came on in relief and ended up striking Campusano out to end the frame, but now the attention shifts to Holderman's health.

"I think he probably could have pitched through it, but didn't like the look on his face," Vogt said. "Obviously, got him out of there at the right time, so we're hoping it's a day-to-day thing."
Although Cleveland's skipper is hopeful this isn't a long-term issue, Vogt confirmed it was a "flare up" of the wrist injury that plagued Holderman's 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The free-agent signing over the winter has been a true bright spot and revelation for the Guardians this season. Holderman owns a 2.42 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP with a strikeout rate of nearly 23 percent on the season.
Vogt called Holderman a "blessing" for the team earlier in the season, and the stats back that up.
Holderman has routinely been used as one of Cleveland's go-to high-leverage arms throughout the year, whether that be as the setup man to closer Cade Smith or in a jam earlier on in the game.
Potentially losing that type of production would be a massive blow for the Guardians' bullpen.
If the 30-year-old does end up on the injured list, it'll be interesting to see who the Guardians recall to take his place. Franco Aleman was just optioned, but could be an option given the circumstances. This could also be an opportunity for Daniel Espino to rejoin the big-league club.
For now, let's just hope this isn't an injury that keeps the breakout pitcher out for too long.
