Steph Curry reportedly no longer on same page as Warriors front office, may not sign extension

After missing out on several opportunities to improve the roster, including failing to land LeBron James, a new report suggests Steph Curry may not be in a rush to commit his long-term future to the organization.

Instead of signing a contract extension immediately, Curry is reportedly considering waiting until free agency, a move that could increase the pressure on Golden State’s front office to build a legitimate championship contender around him before it’s too late.

Warriors Have Failed to Make a Splash

The franchise was connected to multiple high-profile players throughout the summer but has yet to make a meaningful addition. Missing out on LeBron James only added to the frustration, leaving Golden State with many of the same questions that surrounded the roster at the end of last season.

If Curry chooses to delay extension talks, it would be a clear indication that he wants to see the organization become more aggressive in its pursuit of another championship.

He helped transform Golden State into an NBA dynasty, leading the team to championships in 2015, 2017, and 2018 before capturing his fourth NBA title in 2022 with a memorable Finals victory over the Boston Celtics.

Since then, however, the roster has steadily changed. Several key contributors from those championship teams have departed, and the Warriors have struggled to return to the league’s elite. Instead, they’ve spent recent seasons battling for Play-In Tournament positioning rather than competing for another title.

For a player who has spent the majority of his career competing for championships, that reality may no longer be enough.

Could Curry Actually Leave Golden State?

The idea of Curry playing anywhere other than Golden State once seemed impossible, but the situation is beginning to generate legitimate discussion.

Waiting to enter free agency wouldn’t necessarily mean Curry is planning to leave. It could simply be a strategy to encourage the Warriors to make the bold moves needed to maximize the final years of his career.

At the same time, every passing offseason without significant roster improvements increases speculation about whether Curry’s future still lies with the only NBA franchise he has ever known.

For now, the Warriors still have time to change the narrative. But if the front office can’t convince Curry that another championship is within reach, the possibility of the future Hall of Famer exploring a new chapter in his career may become more realistic than ever.
