Zendaya Used This Mermaid Brush for Her Slicked Bangs Look at ‘Spider-Man’ Premiere

Zendaya turned heads at the Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiere in Los Angeles Monday (July 27) in a show-stopping sculptural black gown with dramatic sculpted bangs to match.

The actress — who plays MJ — tapped celebrity hairstylist Ursula Stephen (Rihanna, Rita Ora) for the look, which saw her debuting a sleek, slicked-back style on the red carpet. The key to the look? According to Stephen, it was the boar bristle brush from haircare and accessories brand Bur Bur.

Handcrafted in Korea, the so-called Mermaid Brush uses boar bristles and nylon pins to gently detangle hair while helping to tame flyaways and control frizz.

Stephen then used the brush on Zendaya’s wet hair to section it out, while adding a dab of gel throughout. “The brush really allows you to get the sleekest look possible,” the hairstylist says, adding that the Bur Bur Bristle Brush helps “to smooth and slick the hair to the head.”

From there, Stephen blow dried everything in place and finished it off with a “hold and shine spray” to keep everything set. “This look,” she says, “was all about the drama.”
