Community Eats Shoop's Deli has been a Santa Monica neighborhood favorite since 2000 Creative breakfast and lunch favorites await one block from the beach.
In this week's Community Eats, we're taking you to Santa Monica, where locals clamor for the innovative menu at Shoop's Deli. SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- Shimmy over to Shoop's Deli in Santa Monica, located on Main Street, just one block from the beach.
Open since 2000, this neighborhood favorite has become a popular destination for classic and innovative breakfast and lunch.
"The food, the staff, super friendly, great options, the coffee is amazing, it's just a nice vibe," regular customer Eric Traub said. "If you're lucky, you might even spot a celebrity."
The menu features plenty of creative breakfast options, including pancakes with bacon baked right inside, then topped with egg, avocado and jalapenos.
"That was the first time I ever had bacon inside of a pancake. It was great," a customer said.
Shoop's is also known for its smoked salmon, along with specialty toasts, wraps, fruit pancakes and more.
For lunch, the Shoop's Dog is a must try, a frankfurter topped with bacon and grilled onions, all served on a fresh baguette.
Originally, Shoop's Deli was created to double as a European market, offering a curated selection of imported cheeses, sausages, wine and candies.
Today, owner Tom Kave is carrying on that commitment to the Westside community.
"We're integrated into this neighborhood," Kave said. "The majority of our customers are returning customers. We see them day after day, weekend after weekend."
And with most menu items priced under $20 and generous portions, customers won't leave hungry.
Kave says the longtime staff and loyal customers are what make the business special.
"What makes this business, except for the phenomenal staff that's been here for decades, is the customer that we have," he said.
"We have such a wonderful community to support this business. It's been a great time."
Shoop's Deli is located at 2400 Main St., A1 in Santa Monica and opens at 7 a.m. every day.
