Real Madrid yet to reach agreement with RB Leipzig for star forward; negotiations to continue

The Yan Diomande transfer saga has caused quite the chaos, even leading to a fully fledged war of words between prominent journalists Fabrizio Romano and Florian Plettenberg.

Sky Sports’ Plettenberg has always maintained that Real Madrid have yet to reach an agreement with RB Leipzig, even though the deal is likely to happen sooner rather than later.

He has now offered a key update on the Diomande saga.

According to Plettenberg, there is still no final agreement between Real Madrid and Leipzig for Diomande following fresh negotiations on Wednesday.

Talks are expected to resume on Thursday morning. Crucially, though, the journalist stresses that the deal is still very much on, and Real Madrid remain determined to get it done.

Diomande was in Leipzig on Wednesday, training on a carefully managed workload to avoid any risk of injury that could jeopardise the move.

It is a clear sign that all sides expect the transfer to go through, even if the final details are yet to be ironed out.

Real Madrid, for their part, are pushing hard to complete the signing this week.

A deal edging closer

While the two camps of journalists may differ on the precise state of play, the broader picture points firmly towards Diomande becoming a Real Madrid player, with Jose Mourinho already drawing out how to utilise his qualities .

Romano had earlier confirmed a personal agreement was in place, with the winger fully set on a move to the Bernabeu despite late pressure from PSG, who were desperate to hijack the deal.

The remaining piece of the puzzle is the agreement between the clubs, with a fee in the region of €120 to €130 million under discussion.

Should everything fall into place in the coming days, Diomande would become Real Madrid’s fifth first-team signing of the summer, and comfortably the biggest.

The 19-year-old lit up the Bundesliga last season with 15 goals and 11 assists before impressing at the World Cup, and Real Madrid are clearly convinced he is worth the substantial outlay.

For now, though, the wait goes on, with both clubs set to reconvene in the hope of finally reaching a breakthrough.
