Barcelona have completed a deal that few saw coming, agreeing terms to sign Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus for a fee in the region of €10 million.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has laid out the full financial breakdown of the transfer, confirming that documents have been exchanged between the two clubs.

The Italian journalist states that the agreement includes a €10 million fixed fee, up to €4 million in add-ons, and a 20% sell-on clause that gives Arsenal a stake in any future sale.

Furthermore, Jesus is due to land in Barcelona today for his medical and to put pen to paper on a contract running until June 2028, with an option to extend further.

Barcelona have been searching for a recognised number 9 since Robert Lewandowski’s departure, and Jesus arrives as the player capable of filling that finishing role.

Assuming the paperwork goes through as expected, Jesus will be presented as a Barcelona player on Tuesday.

The timing lines up with Barcelona’s fixture against Rayo Vallecano at the Spotify Camp Nou, which pushes the formal unveiling to the following day.

A familiar dressing room

Jesus won’t be walking into an unfamiliar environment, as several members of Barcelona’s current squad already know him well from his time in the Premier League.

His strongest existing relationship is with Rodri, formed over three seasons together at Manchester City between 2019 and 2022.

The pair played 113 official matches side by side, winning 82 of them, and Rodri set up three goals for the Brazilian directly.

There’s also a connection with Joao Cancelo, who overlapped with Jesus at City from 2019 to 2022.

The two featured together 97 times, with Cancelo assisting four of Jesus’s goals, and shared in two Premier League titles and two League Cup triumphs during that spell.

Eric Garcia offers a further, if shorter, link. The defender was at City between 2018 and 2021, during which time he and Jesus played 23 matches together across two seasons.

Beyond club football, Jesus also has a relationship with Raphinha through the Brazil national team, giving him another familiar face within the Barcelona squad from day one.

A low-risk deal with clear upside for Flick

At €10 million plus add-ons, this is a strikingly modest fee for a forward with Jesus’s pedigree.

For Barcelona, the risk is limited and the potential reward, a proven Premier League striker who already knows several dressing-room voices, is significant.

The presence of Rodri, Cancelo, Garcia and Raphinha should not be underestimated as well, as integration is often the hardest part of a move across leagues, and Jesus arrives with a head start that few new signings get.

The bigger test will come on the pitch. Barcelona have added attacking talent across multiple positions this season, and how Flick fits Jesus into that picture, as a starter, a rotation option, or something in between, will say a lot about how this deal is judged.
