Titans training camp: Takeaways after two weeks of camp

The Tennessee Titans have wrapped up the first two weeks of training camp and have put down some solid reps as they work their way toward the start of the regular season.

Through camp, some stories have broken, and now with the pads on, the intensity and physicality have ramped up as the team works toward the first joint practice and preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. Not to mention the release of the initial training camp depth chart.

It has been a busy two weeks at Vanderbilt Football Health Center, and here are some of the takeaways from the first two weeks of training camp.

Depth chart surprises

While the initial depth chart is always a fun read, it’s often a far cry from the depth chart at the beginning of the regular season. In this case, it was a surprise to see running back Nock Singleton buried at the bottom of the running back room, and linebacker Mohamoud Diabate in the starting lineup ahead of either Anthony Hill Jr. or James Williams Sr.

Other notable surprises were Mason Kinsey ahead of KJ Osborn in the slot and Xavier Restrepo listed behind Calvin Ridley and Elic Ayomanor on the outside.

Head coach Robert Saleh has said the battles along the interior of the offensive line won’t be settled until after the final preseason game. Currently, Austin Schlottmann and Cordell Volson are penciled in as the starters, with Andre James, Pat Coogan, Jackson Slater, and Fernando Carmona battling it out behind them. Carmona has surged over the first two weeks and has started taking first-team reps.

Like some of the other positions, the tight end position must sort itself out. Currently, Kylen Granson sits ahead of both David Martin-Robinson and Jaren Kanak, but from the practices and the Blue & White scrimmage, he has been outplayed.

Outstanding battle ahead in the secondary

While the top of the depth chart is rather set, the depth positions in the secondary are up for grabs and different players are making plays daily. Like the interior of the offensive line, it will take some time to sort this out.

Joey Slye is struggling

Tennessee may need to bring in some competition for Slye, who has been inconsistent at best throughout camp. The team did work out three kickers on Saturday, but failed to sign any of them.

Early in Week 2, star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons threw a punch at JC Latham during a drill, and was immediately kicked out of practice. A similar situation occurred in 2025, and there were no ramifications. This was a significant change, and one that should benefit the organization's accountability and discipline, and hopefully it carries over into the regular season.
