Real Madrid bid goodbye to their club captain Dani Carvajal at the end of last season, with the Spaniard leaving upon the expiry of his contract.

The right-back has been a part of Los Blancos ’ storied history over the last decade, but injuries had mostly kept him out in recent seasons.

The club had to appoint a captain to take over the armband from Carvajal, and Federico Valverde emerged as the frontrunner for the role.

The Uruguayan midfielder has been with the club for many years now, is one of the first names on the team sheet and is a consistent performer.

Despite having an indifferent World Cup campaign with the South American nation, where he struggled to get going, Valverde was always going to be important for Real Madrid.

According to MARCA (h/t Madrid Zone ), Real Madrid received summer approaches from other clubs to test the water regarding Federico Valverde’s situation.

However, even before the club could act on them, the 28-year-old quickly rejected all transfer approaches and reaffirmed his commitment to Madrid.

The Uruguayan did not want to entertain transfer interest of any kind, regardless of who were interested in signing him.

That stance will come as little surprise given his importance within Jose Mourinho’s plans.

He has established himself as one of the central figures in the new project, with his versatility, intensity and leadership making him indispensable.

Jose has identified Valverde as one of the guaranteed starters in his new project , alongside players like Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., Jude Bellingham and Thibaut Courtois.

The status shows how much the manager values the South American midfielder. Valverde can operate in midfield, cover wider areas and even play as a full-back when needed.

His role could become even more important after Real Madrid seemingly missed out on Rodri.

For Real Madrid, the key point is that Valverde is absolutely resolute in his desire to stay. As long as that remains the case, they have nothing to worry about.
