‘I think we can do pretty well’ – West Ham United can have a good season says Tennebø
West Ham United midfielder Ylinn Tennebø believes that the club can build on what they achieved in the second half of last season.
The Hammers struggled in the first half of the campaign but new head coach Rita Guarino’s arrival in December, combined with a strong January transfer window, helped the club to improve results and end the season in tenth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table.
West Ham United have added further new faces over the summer and the club look to have more squad depth and competition going into the 2026/2027 campaign. When speaking to WSL Full-Time, midfielder Tennebø said that she expects the East Londoners to build on those performances and results from the second half of last season.
“I think we can do pretty well,” Tennebø said. “Everyone can beat everyone which is really cool but we’ve signed a lot of good players with different qualities in the winter and summer [transfer] windows. If we can build on what has been started with Rita [Guarino] in the spring, it can be a good season for us. I think we can build a lot from last season and do even better.”
West Ham United will contest 12 derby fixtures in this season’s Barclays Women’s Super League. They arguably start with their biggest derby of all at Tottenham Hotspur. Tennebø is looking forward to the battles for local bragging rights.
She said “Some of the derbies are really important for the fans as well [as us players], so we are going to do everything to try and beat the opponents. It’s cool to play in those derby games, it’ll mean that little bit extra to us.”
Commenting on The Hammers’ upcoming opponents, Tennebø highlighted some of the players and teams that she is most looking forward to testing herself against.
She said “London City have signed some cool players like Alexia Putellas and I didn’t get to play [against] all of the teams last year like Chelsea and in the Manchester City game. They have a lot of good players that I’d like to play against.”
West Ham United’s opening fixture at Tottenham Hotspur kicks-off at 12pm on 6 September 2026.
