Cal Raleigh responds to Dan Wilson criticism from the Seattle Mariners fanbase

The Seattle Mariners just cannot put together any positive run of form this season after losing yet again on Tuesday.

Dan Wilson is coming under heavy criticism up in the Pacific Northwest as the Mariners have slipped to a 56-64 record on the year.

Defeat on Tuesday evening against the New York Yankees was expected, but goes to show the huge regression on display from this time last year.

Cal Raleigh was one of the leaders in the Mariners’ team last season dragging them through to the postseason.

However, he has also seen a considerable downfall in his output after scoring a 60 home run season last year.

Having seen the criticism directed towards the manager, Raleigh has shared his thoughts on who deserves the blame in Seattle.

Cal Raleigh shares his reaction to Dan Wilson’s critics in Seattle

The Mariners look like a shadow of their former selves having pushed the Toronto Blue Jays last season in the Championship Series.

There has not been much to cheer for this season, with Raleigh a prime example of the backward step taken by the team this season.

The catcher admitted he is also to blame as he responded to some of the criticism being received by his manager from the fans in Seattle.

“Ultimately, the players decide the outcome of these games. Obviously, Dan has the say on who comes in and writes the lineup, and we understand that,” Raleigh told the media.

“But at the end of the day, those 26 guys have to be ready to play, and we have to rely on each other. That’s where the performance comes from.

“Dan’s not out there playing. Edgar’s [Martinez] not out there playing. Woody’s not out there pitching. It comes down to the 26 guys in that locker room, and we’re going to have to lean on some different guys each night.”

“That starts in the clubhouse. We just have to do a better job of relaying that and understanding that you can’t point fingers.”

Ultimately, actions speak louder than words and the Mariners are in serious need of some of their star players stepping up at the plate.

Raleigh was high-flying last year and even competing for the MVP award, yet he has scored just one home run this season.

Fingers are being pointed outside the team, but it seems as if the likes of Raleigh are trying to keep things cool in-house.
