ORCHARD PARK - Just like any coach in any sport, Joe Brady wants his Buffalo Bills to win Saturday afternoon’s preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers . Of course he does, because winning is always better than losing, especially when it's your first game as an NFL head coach.

\n “We're competitive in everything we do, right?” Brady said Thursday.

\n So yeah, ideally, the Bills play great in all three phases and they bounce the Panthers right out of shiny new Highmark Stadium and avoid the fate that befell the Bills 53 years ago, the last time they inaugurated a new venue when they got drummed out of Rich Stadium by the Washington Redskins.

\n However, while winning would be a nice bonus, this game and the other two exhibitions the Bills will play are more about roster evaluation and making sure Brady and his coaches gather as much information about their players as possible so that they bring the right group of 53 into Week 1 of the regular season at Houston.

\n “I don't want the guys to think this game matters,” Brady said. “Like it matters to me, it matters to our guys; a lot of the guys, this is their life. But there's also a component of, I just want to be able to see. We're not game planning. I just want to be able to see guys play technique and be able go out there and execute and do their job.”
