Acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, Brown expressed his confidence to the media on Monday about how things are coming along in training camp. While there had been concerns about his knee, Brown is concerned about mastering the Patriots offense and getting ready for a potential Super Bowl run.
"I'm still getting comfortable each and every day, I'm grateful," Brown told reporters on Monday. "The offense is ... I'm in a pretty good spot. I'd say I'm like 90%. And you know, it's just really about executing and being on the same page with Drake (Maye) each and every day. I'm really comfortable."
Brown made a one-handed catch in practice, which caught the media's attention. It's the kind of plays the Patriots will be looking for from Brown, especially after letting go of top receiver Stefon Diggs before the trade and then giving up a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 first-round pick for Brown.
That said, it's a worthy risk for the Patriots to land a younger star receiver than Diggs, 32. Brown, 29, has three-time second-team All-Pro honors and three Pro Bowl appearances.
A former second-round pick from Ole Miss in 2019, Brown has 524 receptions for 8,029 yards and 56 touchdowns in his career. Brown has four consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns, and there's only one season where he didn't make it ot 1,000 yards.
That occurred in 2021 with the Tennessee Titans when he played in just 13 games due to injury. While Brown hasn't been perfectly durable in his career with six games missed in the past two years, the Patriots are taking a good risk on Brown.
It's off to a good start since he knows 90% of the offense well at the start of training camp. That will only make things easier for Maye and company on offense.
