The Detroit Tigers have signed a seven-year Major League veteran starting pitcher to a minor league deal.
This follows the Tigers' active trade deadline, sending Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Casey Mize to the San Diego Padres .
According to the MLB.com transaction log , left-hander Austin Gomber has agreed to a minor league contract with the AL Central club.
Gomber, 32, has not made an appearance in the Majors this season. The Atlanta Braves released him from his minor league deal earlier this week.
In 2025 with the Colorado Rockies , the club he spent the previous five years with, Gomber posted an ugly 7.49 ERA with 82 hits allowed and just 34 strikeouts in 57.2 in 12 starts.

"Gomber can stay stretched out as a starter in Toledo and potentially be an option for long relief if the bullpen gets taxed," Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors wrote about Detroit's pitching situation.
If the Tigers fall out of the postseason race, they'll need long relievers to eat innings. Gomber can be one of those guys if needed.
His results in the last few seasons have not been pretty, but the Tigers required rotation depth after the Skubal and Mize trades.
