The Detroit Tigers have all eyes on them ahead of the 2026 trade deadline, as the availability of Tarik Skubal has captivated many clubs around baseball.
While the jury is still out on whether the Tigers will actually trade Skubal or not, there is significant interest in what the Tigers could end up asking in return for Skubal this summer.
According to Jason Beck of MLB.com , the Tigers would reportedly want a package for Skubal to be headlined by one kind of player: young pitching talent.
Tigers asking for young pitching talent in return for Tarik Skubal
"Tigers will look for young pitching in pretty much any deal," Beck reports. "They have good young arms in Troy Melton, Jackson Jobe, Reese Olson and Ty Madden, but their farm system is thin on projectable starting pitchers."
For the Tigers, if they trade one of the best starting pitchers in Major League Baseball, they're going to want a good young pitcher in return.
Detroit and Scott Harris would surely ask for more than just one young pitcher, but the Tigers will likely be asking for, at a minimum, a young starting pitcher in exchange for Skubal.

Whether that young pitcher is someone who's already made their MLB debut, is closing in on a debut this season or next year, or is even a top-tier prospect who's ascending the prospect rankings, the Tigers will want a new starter if they trade Skubal.
It's a reasonable asking price for the two-time Cy Young winner who hit 1,000 strikeouts in his Tigers career in what might be the last start with Detroit.
Many teams around baseball will surely be willing to offer such a package for Skubal, and the bidding war that ensues could help the Tigers land the kind of return that sets the team up for long-term success well beyond the 2026 MLB season.
