Tennessee picked up its second running back commitment in as many weeks on Wednesday night, landing Asa Barnes. The commitment follows the decision of 5-star running back David Gabriel-Georges , who picked Tennessee over Ohio State. It became clear the Volunteers wanted to take two backs from this cycle, and they end up doing so tonight.

Barnes is a 3-star prospect out of Martin, Tennessee. The 5-11, 200 pound prospect attends Westview, where he help them achieve a 14-0 record. Barnes ran for 1,208 yards on 146 carries while adding 27 catches for 567 yards. Barnes added 31 touchdowns in total.
Tennessee battled Arkansas until the end here, eventually coming out on top. Barnes saw both schools during the official visit period back in June. Alabama, Florida State and Ohio State were just a few of his other offers.
Barnes also runs track and plays basketball. He’s the 19th commitment of the cycle for Tennessee and plans on arriving in Knoxville after he graduates in December.
Following the commitment, Tennessee ranks 21st in the 2027 class rankings, per 247Sports . Barnes is the 22nd ranked player in the state and the 551st overall player in the class.
