Vikings QB Disappoints Fans With Training Camp Performance

The Minnesota Vikings have a QB battle on their hands in training camp, and it appears one of those hopeful starters is losing fan support with his performance.
J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray are fighting for the QB1 spot, with McCarthy, who started 10 games for the Vikings last year, being pressured by the longtime Arizona Cardinal Murray.
Former Viking Adrian Peterson has made his pick clear , and it seems fans might be doing the same.
According to ESPN's Vikings reporter Kevin Seifert , McCarthy had a tough drill on Tuesday, prompting a reaction from the crowd.
"An audible murmur from the crowd here in Eagan after J.J. McCarthy overthrows three consecutive passes to the corner in a goal line drill with no defense," he wrote on social media.
In McCarthy's defense, Seifert reported that the young passer "rebounded with more accurate throws in the next set of reps," but it sounds like he may be losing the confidence of the fan base.
If McCarthy can't secure the trust of the fans — and more importantly, his teammates, coaches and team executives — he doesn't stand a very good chance of winning the starting job.
Peterson, a surefire future Hall of Famer who spent his best years with the Vikings, hinted at that when speaking with Kyle Odegard of Roto Grinders .
“I feel like [McCarthy] has the potential to be an outstanding quarterback, but some of his decision-making, from my own perspective, I’m just like, ‘Ah, come on now,’” Peterson said. “There are certain things you can’t do, and certain things you need to do. Me watching the Vikings last year, there were times when I was like, ‘Come on. Come on. You’re better than that.’ So with that, and with Kyler being a savvy vet with that experience and having that new sense of life — I’m sure the competition has been really good, and they’re pushing each other.”
Murray, meanwhile, brings more pluses than minuses in Peterson's estimation.
"Great agility as a quarterback and has an incredible arm," he said. "And a guy that can keep a play alive. I thought it would be a really good fit for Minnesota with the talent they have. He really could be a game-changer for them.”
It sounds like Murray may be emerging as an early leader in the race for QB1, but there's a long way to go until the season starts.
