Trailing Boeheim’s Army 61-58 going into the Elam Ending, La Familia was still very much in the game. After struggling through the third and fourth quarters, La Familia roared to life on the defensive end with intense pressure on Boeheim’s Army.
That led to a 67-63 lead when Archie Goodwin scored five straight points, including hitting his fifth 3-pointer of the game, before Boeheim’s Army’s Ty Nichols hit a banked-in 3 to make it 67-66.
Goodwin then drove to the basket for a potential clinching layup, but he was called for an offensive foul. Upon review, though, the play was overturned to a blocking foul. Goodwin made one free throw to make it 68-66.
After a steal by Willie Cauley-Stein, Goodwin missed a layup, but Kahlil Whitney raced the length of the floor for a put-back dunk to clinch the win for La Familia at 70-66 and send the crowd at Historic Memorial Coliseum into a frenzy.

Goodwin finished with a game-high 30 points, carrying La Familia to a stirring win and a spot in the Alumni Brackey Championship Wednesday night in Lexington against either Aftershocks (Wichita State) or JHX Hoops (Kansas).
First Quarter
La Familia got off to a blistering start, hitting four of their first five 3-pointers to take a 13-5 lead just 2:34 into the game. The four 3s brought the Memorial Coliseum crowd to its feet and got them cheering loudly early on. Andrew Harrison hit the first two 3s, the second of which he hit while getting fouled, and he converted the free throw for a four-point play.
It was Harrison and Darryl Morsell taking charge early, each leading the Wildcats with seven points. La Familia shot 5-9 from 3-point range and 7-14 from the field. Defensively, they held Boeheim’s Army to just 31.3 percent shooting from the field overall and 2-8 from 3-point range.
Boeheim’s Army trailed by as much as 17-5, but they battled back down the stretch in the first quarter on a 9-3 run t make it 20-14.
Second Quarter
Boeheim’s Army cut further into the deficit at 24-22, creating a tense feeling in the sold-out lower bowl. La Familia opened up a 32-24 lead, but Boeheim’s Army closed the gap to 32-29. Fans were growing restless, boos were raining down towards the officials following some controversial calls. The game became tied 32-32 with 3:27 remaining in the first half. After Boeheim’s Army grabbed a 35-34 lead, Archie Goodwin came right back with a straight-on 3 to regive La Familia the lead at 37-35. La Familia held onto the lead going into halftime at 39-36.
Archie Goodwin exploded in the first half for a team-high 17 points, connecting on all four 3-pointers. Ty Nichols led Boeheim’s Army, and the entire game, with 18 points in the first half.
Third Quarter
Willie Cauley-Stein started the second half with an alley-oop dunk, bringing the crowd to a roar. But then Boeheim’s Army stormed back to take a 45-41 lead with 5:24 left in the quarter. The lead eventually grew to 50-42 with less than four minutes to play in the quarter. It was a 14-3 run by Boeheim’s Army doing the damage through the first 5:36 of the third quarter.
La Familia then clamped down on both ends of the floor. Morsell hit a 3, Kahlil Whitney had a monster block on the defensive end on a layup attempt, and then Goodwin hit a free throw to make it 50-46. Boeheim’s Army would lead 52-48 at the end of the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Kentucky started the fourth quarter ice cold from the field, but they were still hanging around at 57-52 with 6:27 remaining. It became a 57-54 game on a Good win layup. With the score 61-58 in favor of Boeheim’s Army, the game clock was shut off for the Elam Ending and a target score of 69.
That’s when the magic happened for La Familia, as they ended the game on a 12-5 run to capture the win and advance to the Final Four of TBT!
