See the full story · 1 sourcesThe Miami Dolphins are nearly done with their break, with veterans reporting back to the facility on Tuesday, July 28. From that point, Jeff Hafley's team will have a few weeks to compete for roster spots before the start of the regular season.
Over the last few months, Miami's new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has put together a roster that he hopes will surprise some people. However, while there were a few positive additions, there are still some particularly thin rooms.
Before training camp starts up, let's look at Miami's roster and rank the position group from best to worst.
Linebacker
Miami's linebacker corps is the best room on the team and could be one of the best groups in the league. If Jacob Rodriguez grows into the type of player that many expect him to, the trio of Rodriguez, Jordyn Brooks and Tyrel Dodson will strike fear in opposing running backs and tight ends all year.
Running back
The Dolphins are going into training camp with most of the running back room intact, and they even gave De'Von Achane an extension to keep him around beyond their 2026 campaign. If Achane were to go down, Miami would have to rely on Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon, and while neither of them has proven anything in the NFL yet, they were mid-round picks who could make a positive impact if given the opportunity.
Offensive line
Miami's offensive line unit might be the most volatile position group in 2026. If Jonah Savaiinaea and Kadyn Proctor settle in at right and left guard, and Austin Jackson is healthy, they could have one of the top offensive line rooms in the league. However, there's no guarantee that any of those three things happen, which would spell nightmares for Malik Willis.
Defensive line
The defensive line in South Florida has some potential, with Zach Sieler continuing to be a steady, veteran presence in the group. If they can get some of their younger guys like Kenneth Grant, Zeek Biggers or Jordan Phillips to pop, then the group could be a good one.
Specialists
Long snapper Tucker Addington is the only real question mark in this group, as he hasn't played much in the NFL. However, both kickers (Riley Patterson and Zane Gonzalez) and punter Bradley Pinion have done the job well in the league before. At the very least, this room will be respectable in 2026.
Wide receiver
Miami lost Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill this offseason, but they added several veterans and four rookies to compete for snaps. It's unlikely that there's a true WR1 in the mix, but some of these players could surprise this year and prove themselves to be capable starters for the future.
Tight End
Greg Dulcich and Ben Sims are NFL veterans who have their own skill set. Dulcich is the pass catcher, while Ben Sims is the more reliable blocker. It's a weak group at the top, but if rookies Will Kacmarek and Seydou Traore can make a positive impact, they could be better than expected.
Cornerback
There's a lot of potential in this room with first-round pick Chris Johnson and then some other younger cornerbacks like JuJu Brents and Storm Duck who have flashed a bit but have also battled injuries. There's a chance that this room plays better than it looks right now, but they need a lot of things to go right.
Quarterback
Miami brought in Malik Willis to replace Tua Tagovailoa, and while Willis had some success running Green Bay's offense over the last two years when Jordan Love was out, there's no guarantee that he replicates that in South Florida with a questionable group of weapons outside of Achane.
Edge rushers
Former first-round pick Chop Robinson has the potential to be a really strong presence on the edge, but he's yet to show the results that they would've hoped. This will be another opportunity for him to prove himself, but beyond Robinson, the Dolphins need to get something out of Joshua Uche, David Ojabo and Robert Beal Jr. if they want to scare opposing quarterbacks.
Safety
It's really not much of a question which room is the worst in Miami. The safety group is full of newcomers with only Dante Trader Jr. returning from last season. However, none of the additions are highly-touted drafted picks or proven veterans who had a ton of success elsewhere.
