See the full story · 1 sourcesAllen Park — Lions running back Isiah Pacheco hasn't been at practice since last Wednesday, missing four straight sessions of training camp.
Lions coach Dan Campbell explained why Monday, saying Pacheco's "got a little" MCL sprain.
"But we feel good about that," Campbell added. "We feel pretty good about him being ready to go, certainly, when the season gets here. I'm not concerned about that."
Pacheco was signed in March to play behind starter Jahmyr Gibbs, who missed the first few practices of training camp while holding-in for a new contract. Gibbs received his extension Thursday and was back at practice in a full capacity Sunday.
With Gibbs sitting out early and Pacheco currently on the shelf, there's been opportunities for Jacob Saylors and Jabari Small at running back. Campbell has been pleased with the competition from both players thus far.
"I feel like (Saylors has) taken it another step here at the running back position," Campbell said. "He's done some really good things, man. He's got some speed, he's pretty electric. He really is, and he's headsy, smart. I just bring up Small again, Small is having a good camp.
"I feel like those two guys are just jockeying with each other right now. One guy is a little bit ahead, then the next day the other guy is a little bit ahead. I love when they're out on special teams, because that'll be big for both of those players. But it's a great opportunity for those guys. Saylors, I feel like, is having a good camp."
Pacheco was previously with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2022-25, rushing for 2,537 yards and 14 touchdowns on 576 attempts. He missed significant time in 2024 with a fractured fibula and was out for about a month in 2025 with a knee issue.
