Wyndham Clark admits what makes him sad after seeing the redesign at Detroit Golf Club ahead of the Rocket Classic

Wyndham Clark has admitted that he is disappointed that the PGA Tour will not be returning to Detroit Golf Club next year as he lauded the course redesign ahead of the Rocket Classic.
Clark is certainly going to be one of the favourites to win this week in Michigan. Of course, the 32-year-old has had an incredible run with a second US Open win, as well as a victory at The CJ CUP Byron Nelson before that.
He does arguably have some unfinished business at the Rocket Classic.

Wyndham Clark returned to the event last season after three years away. He had previously registered two top 20 finishes in three starts at Detroit Golf Club.
However, a 74 on Friday 12 months ago meant that Clark missed the cut despite still being four under par at the halfway stage.
Clark’s girlfriend is from the region, so it is no surprise that he is in the field once again this year.
And he will be hoping that the $16 million redesign plays to his strengths. Clark certainly seemed to be a fan when asked about the changes in his press conference.

“I’ve always enjoyed coming here. Now I have a little more of a family relationship here, my girlfriend’s from this area so that makes it really fun, kind of a home week it feels like,” he said.
“And then the change in the golf course is amazing. It’s actually kind of sad that we’re not coming back next year. This is one of the best redos I’ve ever seen.
“They made it longer, they made it tougher. Obviously aesthetically I think it’s beautiful with the contrast between all the great green grass and then the amazing fescue.
“Like I said, it’s one of the best redos I’ve seen maybe ever in golf course design. So good for him on doing an amazing job, and the membership. Yeah, unfortunately a bummer that we’re not coming back next year.”

Of course, a victory for Clark this week would probably not come as a huge surprise at all.
He has been in excellent form, with The Open Championship being the first time he has finished outside the top 13 in any event since his victory at TPC Craig Ranch.
And obviously, there are some similarities with TPC Craig Ranch this week, with that golf course just outside Dallas also undergoing a renovation in the months before the tournament.
Unfortunately, the $25 million investment did not do a lot to the scoring – Clark’s 30 under par total was one shot worse than Scottie Scheffler ‘s winning score the previous year – but Clark will hope that success in Texas bodes well for the coming days.
