Look for the Seattle Seahawks to utilize their running backs on wheel routes in 2026 after George Holani and Jadarian Price each caught one in Friday's joint practice with the Tennessee Titans.
New offensive coordinator Brian Fleury has received skepticism from national and Seattle media alike as he faces the pressure of filling Klint Kubiak’s shoes. However, his time as a tight ends coach and run game coordinator in San Francisco gives him plenty of coaching experience connecting offensive line play to the run and pass game. He even has defensive coaching experience from before that. This could be key to his early success. Head coach Mike Macdonald has referred to Fleury as having a “very 360-degree viewpoint” of the game’s relationship between offense and defense. On Friday, he picked the lock on the Tennessee secondary by hitting both of Seattle’s top two running backs on over-the-shoulder catches for big gains. John Boyle reported here that Jadarian Price caught one (and he’s caught several wheel routes on Hard Knocks, so it could very easily be one). Later, the Seahawks released this video of George Holani running down the sideline for a wheel route touchdown, covered by cornerback Cor’Dale Flott:

— Seattle Seahawks (@Seahawks) August 21, 2026 Expect Fleury and company to keep this one in their back pocket for 3rd-and-longs where they get a favorable matchup, like Flott, who’s trying to hide in zone coverage. They should get some on lankier and bulkier linebackers, safeties, and corners who don’t have as much body control. It’s hard to think of many players with the body control of Price, and we’ve seen what McCaffrey does to less-sticky defenders in San Francisco when they try to cover him. Holani doing it early too is a great sign this will be a consistent concept the system can deploy regularly. That’s an extra late-developing, late-play explosive element they didn’t have last year, which will complement Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s crossing routes well.
