With the 2026 MLB season coming to a close soon, the league finds itself at the precipice of a major change. The current CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) is set to expire in December of this year.
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ recent financial dominance has raised a lot of questions about the future. MLB owners are reportedly pushing for the introduction of a salary cap, which the MLBPA will oppose.
The situation is tense, and the possibility of a lockout or the entire season being cancelled has been discussed. With no real answers for fans, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred recently addressed the issue.

These negotiations can be tricky, as neither side is likely to give way on an issue as big as a potential salary cap. As such, optimism within the fanbase hasn’t been high in recent months.
However, ultimately, everyone loses if the season is delayed or cancelled. And based on Manfred’s comments, the league is actively pursuing a resolution to the situation.
“We’re meeting regularly, which is good,” Manfred said. “Every week we’ve had days where we’ve met with the players. It’s early, but we’ve got a lot of work to do, and we’re at it.
“Look, our goal is to make a deal. We want to make a deal; we want to play baseball next year. We’re planning on playing baseball next year.”
The update doesn’t sound promising, and negotiations are likely to begin in earnest after the season ends in October. For now, the idea that they are motivated to play a season in 2027 will be a relief for fans.
