One of the Braves' most obvious needs heading into the deadline is starting pitcher help. They have dealt with injuries throughout the season and would be wise to improve their rotation because of it.
Due to this, the Braves are now being connected to two notable pitching trade candidates with the deadline rapidly approaching.
In a recent article for The Athletic , Jesus Cano named Michael King and Reid Detmers as two potential trade targets for the Braves.
"Starting pitching is a priority for the Atlanta Braves this season, but if the team plans on giving up higher prospect capital, it should get an arm with control," Cano wrote. "Padres right-hander Michael King and Angels left-hander Reid Detmers fit that category."
With the San Diego Padres being on the wrong side of the playoff line, King has been creating chatter as a trade candidate. The 31-year-old has an opt-out clause after this season, so it is possible that the Padres will trade him to avoid the risk of potentially losing him next offseason for nothing. In 22 appearances this season with San Diego, he has a 6-7 record, a 3.38 ERA, and 109 strikeouts. With numbers like these, he would be a strong pickup for the Braves if acquired.
Detmers, on the other hand, is one of many trade candidates on the struggling Los Angeles Angels. The 27-year-old would be more than a rental for the Braves if acquired, as he is under team control through the 2028 season. This certainly adds to his appeal and would make him an intriguing addition for the Braves if brought in. In 22 starts this season for the Angels, he has a 3-7 record, a 4.03 ERA, and 145 strikeouts.
