The St. Louis Cardinals have been one of the most fun teams to watch so far this season. With little expectation, they have been keeping up with the likes of a competitive NL Central.
So, this was an interesting team to watch with the trade deadline coming up. Would they add a player or two and try to fight for a postseason spot, or get rid of some players and continue to focus on the future?
Well, they mostly parted ways with players to continue building the farm system, but they were able to acquire a player without losing anyone.

Trade deadline sales send Cardinals sliding down power rankings
St. Louis got rid of a core outfielder in Lars Nootbaar, sending him to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for RHP Daniel Eagen, LHP Sandro Santana, and a player to be named later.
They also sent Dustin May and JoJo Romero to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for OF Alexander Frias and OF Josiah Ragsdale while acquiring Caleb Ferguson from the Cincinnati Reds for $250,000 in international bonus pool money.
With these trades, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter has bumped this team down from No. 16 to No. 22 in his post-deadline power rankings.
"The long-rumored Lars NootBaar trade finally happened, as he was flipped to the D-backs for a solid return headlined by right-hander Daniel Eagen. The Cardinals also sent a package of Dustin May and JoJo Romero to the rival Brewers for two solid prospects in Alexander Frias and Josiah Ragsdale, and it will be interesting to see who ends up winning that one a few years down the road."
These moves set the Cardinals up even better for their future; however, this will still be a fun team to watch the rest of the way out as the young core can still light up the scoreboard.
