Wyndham Clark hadn't made a birdie all day in the final round of the BMW Championship , and had blown his five-streak lead at the start of the day.
But just when it looked as if he'd get passed in the final laps of the race for the second FedEx Cup playoff event, Clark rallied to birdie the final three holes and shoot even-par 70 at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis to win by three strokes over Patrick Cantlay and four over Rory McIlroy.
"It was weird," Clark said. "I wasn't nervous. As much as I would've liked to have run away with it, it was fun to get the juices flowing."
Clark, winner of the U.S. Open in June, won for the third time on the PGA Tour this season, tying for the most wins on the year. He also leaped into the top six of the U.S. Presidents Cup point standings and secured an automatic spot on the team. He's also up two spots to No. 3 in the FedEx Cup standings heading to the Tour Championship next week.

Clark, 32, surged to a five-stroke lead heading into the final round by playing 7 under during an eight-hole stretch on Saturday. But the birdies dried up and he bogeyed three holes on the front nine.
First, Gary Woodland trimmed the lead to one but he cold-topped his tee shot at No. 9 into a creek and made double bogey. He finished T-4.
Cantlay twice cut the deficit to one but made bogey at nine, too, and double bogey at No. 11. He birdied the last three holes to finish second and earn a spot in next week's Tour Championship. McIlroy, who trailed by five at the start of the day, tied Clark for the lead at 14 under with a 9-foot birdie putt at 11. But his putter didn't behave down the stretch.
