New tight ends coach Derek Shay enters his first season with plenty of talent at the position, led by senior Micah Riley, while transfers Houston Thomas and Richie Anderson are seen as receiving tight ends compared to Riley's inline blocking prowess and overall reliability in 11- and 12-personnel looks. However, neither player compares to redshirt freshman Kiotti Armstrong, who now stands 6'5" and 275 pounds heading into his second season.
After landing Alabama transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton, who stands 6'4" and 215 pounds, Texas A&M's size issues last season are now a thing of the past, and if Kiotti Armstrong takes another step in his development as a route runner and blocker, first-year offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins will have yet another weapon in his arsenal to deploy this fall.
On Wednesday, Armstrong's hulking size was on full display as he ran an out route, made the catch, and kept his feet in bounds, which is a good sign that he is at the proper playing weight. Texas A&M's season-opener vs. Missouri State will likely be the first time we see Armstrong after appearing in just two games last season, but so far, the Jasper (TX) native certainly looks the part.
