See the full story · 2 sourcesNew England Patriots wide receiver Kyle Williams is looking to make his mark in a crowded room. He is taking things one step at a time, as he told the assembled media following training camp practice on Tuesday.
As a rookie, Williams showed promise last season by hauling in 10 catches for 209 yards and three touchdowns. There were hopes that he would get even more opportunities in 2026, but the Patriots have continued to add talent to the wide receiver room.
They signed Romeo Doubs in free agency and traded for A.J. Brown back in June. Kayshon Boutte is still on the roster, along with Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, and Efton Chism. There were a lot of mouths to feed last season, but there's even more this year.
Williams currently looks positioned as the No. 6 or No. 7 receiver in that group .
"Control the controllables," Williams said, when asked about him not repping with the starters.
Kyle Williams is asked how he responds while not getting reps with the starters: “Control the controllables.” Williams worked with backups today. Pop Douglas, meanwhile, got the majority of reps as the third wideout (alongside AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs) with Drake Maye. pic.twitter.com/EbiaM4a4eu
— Phil Perry (@PhilAPerry) July 28, 2026 There is still plenty of time for Williams to turn things around in training camp.
The Patriots have held only four practices, and they have scheduled joint practices in August against the Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles. Even with limited opportunities, Williams will still have a chance to prove himself.
