Where is Archbishop Rummel? Everything to know about Colton Nussmeier's new school
One of the nation's biggest high school football stories added another chapter on Friday, Aug. 7, when news broke of Georgia four-star quarterback commit Colton Nussmeier transferring from a Texas high school to one in Louisiana .
After an injury-riddled junior year and a ruling that upheld him losing his eligibility to play his senior season at Denton Ryan (TX) after a transfer , Nussmeier will spend his one remaining high school season at Archbishop Rummell.
Just where is his new school and have they ever won a state championship playing in one of the state's toughest leagues? Here's everything you need to know about the school Nussmeier will play his senior season at.
Where is Archbishop Rummel?
Nussmeier's move to Archbishop Rummel moves him seven hours east of Dallas and closer to his eventual college home in Athens (GA).
Located on the northwest side, the school is in the largest community in Jefferson Parish known as Metairie. He will also be just over an hour south of Baton Rouge, where his older brother Garrett Nussmeier played at LSU.
A program looking for football state title No. 4
With Nussmeier running the offense in 2026, it's only logical that the Raiders may be viewed as one of the top teams in New Orleans' Catholic League.
The Raiders are coming off of an 8-5 record and finished with a 4-3 record in district play.
While they once again play one of the state's hardest schedules, including games such as at home against John Curtis and a road trip to Edna Karr, Nussmeier gives the Raiders one of the best signal-callers in the state and provides a state championship hope that hasn't existed for over half a decade.
The Raiders won their first state championship in 2012, beating Barbe 35-14. They repeated again in 2013, beating Byrd in a 23-22 slugfest.
Six years later they added state championship No. 3. That championship came in a defensive showdown as they held off Catholic (Baton Rouge) 14-10.
The former high school of several big names
Nussmeier won't be the biggest name to have ever walked the halls at Archbishop Rummell once classes begin. The school has had its fair share of future NFL players in the past, including one of the game's present-day superstars.
Before he was winning a national title at LSU and becoming one of the best players in the NFL, Ja'Marr Chase was a standout for the Raiders.
A member of the 2018 class, Chase was a five-star prospect according to 247Sports. As a senior in 2017 he caught 61 passes for 1,011 yards and 13 touchdowns. The prior season he also had 1,000 receiving yards to go with 11 touchdowns.
The school was also home to former Chicago Bears safety Craig Steltz, former Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Troy Kropog, tight end Cathan Carter, wide receiver Cyril Grayson, Ashton Stamps and Logan Diggs.
Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Omar Khan is also an alum of the school.
