Biggest Strength: Pass Rush. The New York Giants won’t be a fun obstacle for opposing quarterbacks this offseason. They already had three talented edge-rushers in Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux, and they added Ohio State’s Arvell Reese to the group in April. While the Giants plan to use Reese as an off-ball linebacker as a rookie, he will add a new dynamic to the pass rush. Expect to see new defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson lead with his pass rush this season.
Biggest Weakness: Defensive Tackle. While Dennard should benefit from having a terrific pass-rushing rotation, his group may struggle to control the line of scrimmage. New York’s defensive tackle rotation took a massive hit when Schoen traded Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals, and it took another big one when Roy Robertson-Harris suffered a torn ACL during OTAs. New York has added the likes of Shelby Harris, D.J. Reader, and Leki Fotu, but the interior of its defensive front figures to be a 2026 liability.

How will Giants handle the camp grind? Harbaugh is going to run a much tougher camp than Brian Daboll. That much we knew from the moment the Giants hired Harbaugh. How much of a grind will it be? Well, the Giants practice four straight days to open camp. Then they have an off day. Then they practice six straight days before their next off day. Will this help push the Giants into elite game shape? Or cause injuries?

Defense. 1. OLB Brian Burns. Not only is Burns a top-tier pass rusher who tallied an NFC-best 16.5 sacks last season, but he’s also a highly respected veteran within the Giants locker room. Just look at the turnout of teammates who showed up for his charity softball game this spring. So yes, he might be part of one of the best position rooms on the team, which hurts his case for being the most indispensable, but his presence as the face of the defense — especially with Dexter Lawrence out of town — isn’t as easily replaceable.

7. Andrew Thomas, New York Giants. When healthy, Thomas is one of the top blindside protectors in the NFL. The primary issue is that he has eclipsed 900 snaps just once in the past five seasons. However, in his 13 games played in 2025, Thomas tied for fourth place among qualified tackles with a 90.3 PFF grade. He allowed just 13 total pressures, including one sack, while posting a career-high 84.5 PFF run-blocking grade. A consistently healthy Thomas gives the Giants their best chance to compete in a tough NFC East.

Edge, Abdul Carter, Age 22. Carter arrived with great expectations as a top-three pick and attracted attention for his winding journey toward selecting a jersey number, then seemed to fly under the national radar throughout most of his rookie season. Those paying closer attention, however, understood that Carter had a strong debut campaign. Despite recording just four sacks in 2025, Carter finished seventh in quarterback pressures with 72 (per NGS), just five fewer than Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett recorded. He earned enough Defensive Rookie of the Year votes to finish fifth, and if he can convert more of his pressures into sacks, he’ll quickly climb the popularity charts. He turns 23 in October, too, so he has plenty of time to do so.

How good does Malik Nabers look coming off a torn ACL? The New York Giants need Pro Bowl wide receiver Malik Nabers healthy in order to maximize 2025 first-round pick quarterback Jaxson Dart’s development. Nabers is far and away the most important developing story at Giants training camp. Nabers’ torn ACL injury wasn’t cut and dry. It also included a full meniscus repair and an extra procedure to remove inflamed scar tissue.
However, New York did not place Nabers on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to begin training camp, which provided some hope that he might be ready to roll for Week 1. When he’s on the field, he’s dangerous: Nabers’ 127 career receptions through 19 career games rank as the second-most in NFL history behind only his Giants teammate Odell Beckham Jr.’s 133. New York needs Nabers to be back at full strength, and how he looks in training camp will be far and away the most important development for the Giants.
