Disney has matched one of its oldest cartoon characters to the Indianapolis Colts for merchandise.
The new Disney / Champion NFL Collection pairs each NFL team with a character from Disney, Pixar, Marvel or Star Wars.
There are 32 team-character matchups in the lineup, part of a collaboration between Disney, the NFL, Champion and Fanatics. Some of the matchups were unveiled at Fanatics Fest NYC in July. The full collection, which includes T-shirts, crewnecks, and fleece clothing, was unveiled Aug. 24 and is now available at NFLShop.com , Fanatics.com , DisneyStore.com , and at select retailers nationwide.
Indianapolis Colts Disney character match
The collection's match for the Colts is a horse, of course.
The Indianapolis Colts’ pick is Disney’s Horace Horsecollar, described as “a classic workhorse representing one of the NFL's most storied franchises and the hardworking Midwest ethos.”
Created in 1929, the cartoon black horse was Mickey Mouse's sidekick in early Disney black-and-white shorts.
How was the match made?
“Every pairing was inspired by the qualities, traditions and fan culture that define each NFL team, as well as the shared personalities, traits and stories that connect these teams with beloved Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars characters,” said Bret Healey, director of graphic design at Disney Consumer Products. “The result is a collection that feels authentic to fans while celebrating the passion behind both fandoms.”
