The latest update on the Mark Mitchell lawsuit vs. NCAA and SEC

Kentucky Basketball appears to be gearing up for a battle with the SEC and NCAA to get Mark Mitchell eligible.

According to Yahoo Sports reporter Ross Dellenger, Mitchell’s attorneys have amended their lawsuit in Kentucky, challenging both the NCAA and SEC to keep Mitchell eligible this coming season.

“Attorneys amended their complaint in the Kentucky eligibility lawsuit against the NCAA, requesting a judge hold the NCAA in contempt of court for allowing the SEC to issue a new policy that impacts the eligibility of 13 athletes, including Missouri-to-UK transfer Mark Mitchell,” Dellenger wrote on Twitter .

“Attorney Ryan Downton tells @YahooSports that the players believe the SEC’s new policy and “draconian penalties” interfere with their “constitutional right to have access to the court system,” as the sanctions may prevent schools from accepting the players onto rosters.”

It’s unclear whether this will directly address the SEC’s intraconference transfer rule, which would bar Mitchell from transferring from Missouri to another SEC program unless he entered the spring transfer portal window, or whether this is more about the new rules on pros returning to school. Either way, it’s clear that Mitchell isn’t throwing in the towel on getting to play next season.

We’ve thankfully got over two months until the college basketball season tips off, because at this rate, it’s going to take that long to figure out if Mitchell will be eligible this season for the Wildcats.
