The Kansas City Royals have added a former All-Star pitcher and World Series champion to their pitching staff.
The right-hander is likely to make a greater impact in 2027, as the Royals immediately placed him on the 15-day injured list after the signing.
On Thursday, the AL Central club announced that Tony Gonsolin has signed a Major League deal for 2026 with a 2027 club option.
Gonsolin won a World Series title with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020, spending the first six years of his career with the NL West powerhouse.
Injuries have taken their toll over the past few seasons, as Gonsolin has thrown over 100 innings just twice in his career.

Gonsolin underwent Tommy John Surgery in August 2023 and missed the entire 2024 season. The following August, he underwent an internal brace procedure after he made just seven starts.
He earned an All-Star selection in 2022, posting a 2.14 ERA while going 16-1 with a career-high 4.3 bWAR in 24 starts.
Kansas City could examine Gonsolin's health once he returns from the IL and see if he's a viable option for the rotation next season.
