Bernie Kosar is still remembered well by fans of the Cleveland Browns . He guided the franchise to three AFC Championship games during the late 1980s, and is considered one of their best quarterbacks ever.
He later went to the Dallas Cowboys , where he played as a backup quarterback. He managed to win Super Bowl XXVIII in the 1993 season, the only time he won it in his career. Kosar is now asking his former franchise’s owner for help after a horrible incident.
Bernie Kosar asks Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for replacement after Super Bowl ring was stolen
Kosar was drafted by the Browns in 1985 and spent eight seasons with them as the starting quarterback. After being released in 1993, he joined the Cowboys as the backup to Troy Aikman for one season. Though he only played for four games, that was the only season he managed to win the Lombardi Trophy, a career high for him.
He did play an important role in the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers , after Aikman was unavailable in the second half of the game due to a concussion. He was also heavily involved during Super Bowl week, helping to prepare the team with offensive coordinator Norv Turner and even appeared in the final play of the Super Bowl game against the Buffalo Bills .
Kosar recently appeared on the August 12, 2026, episode of The Sage Steele Show. He revealed that the Super Bowl XXVIII championship ring he earned with the Cowboys was stolen. He asked for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to get a replacement ring for the one he lost.
He said , “I lost it, so I can’t wear it. And Jerry, I’m going to be calling you because it got stolen. I’m going to be calling you for another one, bro. So, please help me out again.”
So far, Jones has not yet responded to this plea for help. Details about the theft are still unknown, and it remains to be seen if the Cowboys owner can manage another Super Bowl ring for him. Kosar recently got compared to one current player of the Browns.
Browns Shedeur Sanders gets compared to Bernie Kosar
Browns legend Hanford Dixon recently compared franchise quarterback Shedeur Sanders with Kosar. Kosar and Dixon were teammates, and the comparison was praiseworthy for Sanders. Speaking on the BIGPLAY Cleveland Show, he said , “I see Bernie Kosar. And what I mean by that is, one thing we knew about Bernie, is that Bernie was very confident. I mean, he was a guy that believed in his ability, he knew that he could play, and knew that he could play quarterback.”
He added, “Shedeur is the same way. He’s a very confident guy. Some people call him cocky. I don’t have a problem with him being cocky. But I think this guy is very, very confident. He knows that he can play, he believes that he can play. He’s the type of guy at the quarterback position that a team rallies themselves around him. They’ll get behind this guy if we give him the chance to prove himself.”
Bernie Kosar will be hoping that Sanders manages to emulate him, and that the Cowboys get him a replacement ring.
