The Blue Jays have several trade candidates to watch with the trade deadline rapidly approaching. Among them are Shane Bieber, Daulton Varsho, Max Scherzer, George Springer, and Kevin Gausman.
However, it has now been confirmed that the Blue Jays are not looking to move one of their top pitchers ahead of the deadline.
In a recent article for ESPN , Buster Olney reported that the Blue Jays have not made relief pitcher Louis Varland available for trade.
"The Toronto Blue Jays are prepared to trade veterans such as Kevin Gausman and Jeff Hoffman, among others, but to date, they are not dangling All-Star reliever Louis Varland, who has had a spectacular season," Olney wrote.
With the Blue Jays having such a poor season, some wondered if they would make Varland available while he is in the middle of a career year. However, based on Olney's report, it appears that he will be staying put in Toronto.
When noting that Varland is under team control for multiple more seasons, it makes sense that the Blue Jays want to keep him. This is especially so when noting the Blue Jays are hoping to bounce back next season.
In 48 appearances this season with the Blue Jays, Varland has a 3-3 record, a 1.02 ERA, 22 saves, and 72 strikeouts.
