Teams are finalizing their 53-man rosters with less than two weeks until the 2026 NFL regular season gets underway, which includes placing players on IR or PUP lists and shutting them down for the first four games. This was the case for Commanders top CB Trey Amos, among several others, who will now miss the Week 1 season opener against the Eagles.
The Commanders have placed CB Trey Amos and RB Jeremy McNichols on injured reserve with a designation to return. Laremy Tunsil and Johnny Newton will surely hit IR as soon as tomorrow.

Amos had a great start to his rookie season in 2025, and in 10 games, the CB recorded 32 tackles and six pass breakups.
Scott Bair of Hogs Haven explained how Amos has struggled to stay healthy — the cornerback finally returned after a fractured fibula that ended his 2025 season, only to suffer a sprained ankle in his second practice back late in training camp.
“It’s a setback for the Commanders defense, considering he was expected to be their No. 1 cornerback. They’ll make do with a combination of Amik Robertson, Mike Sainristil and Rasul Douglas, among others.“
Rasul Douglas signed with the Commanders this offseason, and will be making his return to Philly. The corner was drafted by the Eagles in 2017 and helped the team win a Super Bowl, before ultimately being waived after the 2019 season. He proceeded to bounce around a bit, playing for the Panthers, Packers, Bills, and Dolphins, before joining the Commanders. The CB has been really solid since leaving the Eagles, despite not finding a long-term place to play, and can still affect the game.
The Eagles host the Commanders on Sunday, Sept. 13, and we’ll all finally get a chance to see what the new Philly offense looks like.
