Now, he's receiving a second opinion to confirm the initial indication from the testing. Something else Moore noted: the injury is not to the same knee Bresee injured at Clemson, which is important given his history. Bresee tore the ACL in his left knee during the 2021 college season.
“It was looking that way (a torn ACL)," Moore told reporters after practice on Thursday. "I haven’t gotten the finalized results. I know they’re getting a second opinion and all that stuff right now, but obviously, it didn’t look great based on the initial results.”
Losing Bresee would be significant for the Saints defense. The 24-year-old defensive lineman recorded 37 total tackles, five tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks in just 15 games during the 2025 season.
“It’s tough," Moore added. "Bryan, I thought, played some really good football last year and had a great offseason. It’s a bummer for him. At the same time, there are going to be some opportunities for some other guys. They’ve just got to be ready to rock and roll, and that’s what training camp is all about.”
In Bresee's absence, Vernon Broughton, Christen Miller, and Nathan Shepherd will all need to step up to fill the void. Shepherd played a role in the defense last year; Broughton played only one game in his rookie season; and Miller was selected in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Moore acknowledged that it's a tough situation — one that the team didn't envision -- with sparse options available in free agency and a too-expensive trade market developing , they'll have to adapt a next-man-up mentality.
