Taysom Hill confirmed his time with the New Orleans Saints had ended in a social media post last week.
Hill penned a heartfelt goodbye to the team and city he and his family have called home for nine seasons and admitted he wasn’t sure what was next for him.
“I’ve taken time this offseason to think carefully about what comes next for my family and me. I still don’t have a clear answer about what the future holds, but I know that returning to New Orleans is not in the cards,” Hill wrote in his statement.
Hill missed the beginning of the 2025 season while recovering from the knee injury he sustained in December 2024. But he returned in time to play in 13 games for the Saints, where he caught 11 passes, rushed for 114 yards on 52 carries and threw a touchdown pass.
While Hill said goodbye to New Orleans, he didn’t necessarily say goodbye to football, adding that he’s “still working through what comes next.”
If it’s up to his former head coach Sean Payton, Hill’s NFL career isn’t over.

Will Taysom Hill sign with the Denver Broncos?
NFL Network’s Steve Wyche reported on Saturday that Payton had told him “that the Broncos will explore bringing in” Hill.
Broncos Coach Sean Payton told @cfrelund Cynthia Frelund and me today that the Broncos will explore bringing in free agent tight end Taysom Hill, who played for Payton with the Saints.
— Steve Wyche (@wyche89) August 1, 2026 Payton, who is now the head coach of the Denver Broncos, coached Hill for the first five seasons of the former BYU quarterback’s NFL career.
He addressed Wyche’s report after practice on Monday, noting he would see Hill this weekend in Canton, Ohio, for Drew Brees’ induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
“There’s no hurry right now. I’m going to see him (in Canton) in five days,” Payton said, according to ESPN .
The Broncos head coach wants to gauge his former Swiss Army Knife’s interest first.
“We’ll see where he’s at and kind of go from there,” he said. “ … The key thing is his health and, you know, where he’s at mentally. I don’t want to assume he wants to play.”

Hill has another connection to Denver outside of Payton. The doctor who performed his 2024 knee surgery was Broncos head physician Dr. Karim Meijer.
Payton said Hill visited Denver for “two or three” follow-up visits with Meijer since his injury, according to The Athletic .
Hill signing with the Broncos has one of his former teammates’ stamp of approval. Broncos tight end Adam Trautman, who was teammates with Hill in New Orleans, praised the “Swiss Army knife.”
“He’s super unique,” Trautman said, per The Athletic. “He’s the true definition of a Swiss Army knife. But, yeah, we’ll see. Obviously, if he comes here, he’d obviously be a great addition. You know he’d fit the culture.”
