The Buffalo Bills ’ new “Nickel City” alternate uniforms have sparked plenty of debate across social media, but franchise quarterback Josh Allen is making it clear where he stands. As criticism continues to pour in over the all-gray uniform combination, Allen is urging fans to give the new look a chance.
Speaking after the Bills ’ first training camp practice in Pittsford, New York, Allen ended his media session with an unexpected plea.
“Stop hating on the jerseys, guys,” Allen said with a smile.
The Bills unveiled the “Nickel City” alternate uniforms earlier this week, introducing an all-gray jersey and pants combination for the first time in franchise history. The reveal quickly generated mixed reactions, with many fans expressing disappointment over the departure from the team’s traditional blue, red and white colors.
Allen, however, believes the new uniforms represent more than just a fashion statement.
“I enjoy them. I think it’s very symbolic of what we want to do and what we want to be,” Allen said. “I understand people want the old jerseys and the old helmets and all that.”
The reigning face of the franchise acknowledged fans’ appreciation for Buffalo’s classic look but emphasized that the organization is embracing a new era.
“But at some point, too, we are moving forward,” Allen continued. “We have to move forward and do something new—and that’s what we’re doing.”

The “Nickel City” uniforms are expected to be worn twice during the 2026 season, although the Bills have not yet announced which games will feature the alternate look.
The design marks the first time Buffalo has incorporated gray so prominently into its uniforms. NFL rules require alternate uniforms to use colors already included in a team’s official palette. The set features a blue helmet with the Bills’ signature red charging buffalo logo, pairing it with the bold gray uniform combination.
Whether fans ultimately embrace the new design remains to be seen, but Allen’s endorsement sends a clear message: the Bills are focused on the future. While opinions may differ on the uniforms, Buffalo’s goal remains unchanged as training camp begins—competing for a Super Bowl, regardless of what they’re wearing.
