See the full story · 1 sourcesWith the offseason finally coming down from the climax that was LeBron James signing with the Philadelphia 76ers, it's time for teams to look toward shoring up the final missing pieces of their rosters and for the Golden State Warriors , they have one very big missing piece in Draymond Green .
Green declined his player option for the 2026-27 season near the beginning of the offseason, which was done with the intent of him signing a longer-term deal to stay with the Warriors, but as the rest of the offseason shifted, now so does the Warriors plans with Green.
One thing that is all but certain is that Green will re-sign with the Warriors. There haven't been any serious reports that any team is interested in poaching Green and any effort would essentially be moot considering that Green has had perpetual loyalty to the team that he's played with his entire career.

The operative question for the Warriors is the financials of Green's eventual deal. It was initially believed that Green would take a backloaded deal with the Warriors where he would make around $20 million in his first season before the money would gradually increase and even out to something that was annually equivalent to the nearly $28 million option that he declined.
The purpose of paying Green less up front was to give the Warriors more financial flexibility to bring in another superstar, namely James, but after the Warriors missed out on not just James but every significant superstar that was available through either traded or free agency, the Warriors don't have as much need of the extra money.

Green Isn't Worried
Either way, a deal has yet to be struck between Green and his team of 14 years, but he clearly isn't in a rush, as he revealed in a recent episode of his podcast.

Green still being unsigned isn't much of a surprise considering that the Warriors now have to pivot in their offseason strategy after missing out on James, but how calm and vocal he is about this process is a surefire indicator that a new contract is only a matter of time.
