Blake Snell has been quite brilliant for the Los Angeles Dodgers ever since he came off the injured list. He’s allowed just two earned runs in 18.0 innings pitched since, lowering his ERA to 2.57 on the season. Snell continues to be one of the best pitchers in MLB, as he has been since the start of his big-league career with the Tampa Bay Rays .
The Rays traded Snell back in 2020, with Tampa Bay selling high on him even though he was still under contract until the end of the 2023 season. This is Tampa Bay’s standard operating procedure; they keep the line moving to avoid running into payroll problems as a small-market club.
Since then, the Rays have developed quite a few quality starting pitchers. In 2026, one of their best starters has been Drew Rasmussen, who pitched another quality start for Tampa Bay in a 4-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Monday. Rasmussen earned the win after he allowed just one earned run on three hits in six innings of work, striking out five while walking none.

With that latest win for Rasmussen, he became just the second pitcher in Rays history to earn a win in at least seven consecutive starts, joining Blake Snell in that exclusive club, according to MLB Stats on X.
Snell accomplished the feat in 2018, when he earned a win in nine consecutive starts for the Rays. During that nine-game stretch, Snell pitched 52.2 innings and allowed just six earned runs, which was good for an ERA of 1.03. He ended that season with a win-loss record of 21-5.
Even though the Rays finished 2018 with a 90-72 record, they missed the postseason after finishing third in the stacked AL East.
In 2026, the Rays have led the AL East for much of the season and are currently on top of the division with a 78-53 record. Rasmussen has a 14-5 record this year with an ERA of 2.95 across 140.1 innings (25 starts).
