After a slow start to the year, we’re beginning to get a lot of new music.
Some of the ones fitzie has been interested in: Dry Cleaning, Rolling Stones, Linda Lindas, and Yard Act.
There’s another band to add to that list now – Fontaines D.C.
The Irish group announced they are releasing their sixth album, Dopamine Chamber , in October. And to launch that they are releasing the first single from said album: Marianne .
My first impression here is that it is very The Cure with a groovy bass line.
According to a press release, the band is now asking the question of where one escapes to in their journey. For Fontaines D.C., that journey began in Dublin. And considering that frontman Grian Chatten said the latest releae will feel “more like a catastrophic warning”, I’m wondering if we’ll get any more of these brooding lines.
They have big shoes to fill. Their past three outputs hit either 1 or 2 on the UK charts (no so great in the US – but who cares, right?). More importantly: Starbuster was ranked No. 6 in Fitzie’s Top 20 songs of 2024.
The question now is, will Fontaines D.C. live up to the hype again?
